The Cozad Tourism commissioned a 50 State Barn Quilt Display in Cozad. This is a unique community art installation located near the corner of 7th and Meridian in downtown Cozad, Nebraska.

The display is 6’ x 50’ with all 50 states represented.  Each state has an official quilt block, much like a state bird or flower designation.  Block designs were used from the United States Patchwork Pattern Book: 50 Quilt Blocks from 50 States from Hearth and Home Magazine, with permission by Dover Publications.

Rose Mapel of Artistic Innovations was commissioned to paint the barn quilt blocks for the project to maintain uniformity in color and design. The display is located near the corner of 7th and Meridian in downtown Cozad, Nebraska, on the side of the Mead Lumber storage building, across the street from Bella Italia restaurant.

The Cozad Tourism committee is requesting sponsorships to help support this project. The initial expenses have been funded by the Tourism Committee through lodging tax dollars. It is our hope that this one-of-a-kind piece of art will draw tourists to the area to see their state’s block. Sponsorships for each of the 50 state blocks are $200.00. This includes the cost of having the 2’x 3’ block commissioned and painted as well as contributing for installation and maintenance costs.  Download your sponsorship form here.

We’d love to have you help us celebrate this exciting showpiece which is sure to capture a positive first impression to visitors to our community.

Barn Quilts of Dawson County Recieves the 2021 Rising Star Award from the Nebraskaland Foundation

June 24th, 2021

The Cozad Tourism Committee was presented the Rising Star Award by the Nebraskland Foundation in recognition and celebration of Nebraska's strong agricultural and quilting heritage.  The promotion of tourism and education through this unique trail of local barn quilt destinations is a testimony to your commitment to strengthen your community and the State of Nebraska.   Each year the Foundation presents the Rising Star Award which recognizes an individual, business, or industry whose creation of new activity or expansion of an existing activity promotes the economy and Good Life in Nebraska. The Rising Star Award was created in 1999 to recognize outstanding tourism attractions, public or private, which have made a significant expansion to an existing attraction or has established a new one – thereby adding value to the overall tourism effort of the local area, the region, or the state.
